Sligo is filled with majestic mountains and glorious beaches and lakes. This varied landscape inspired the paintings of Jack Yeats, the brother of one of Ireland's most influential writers, W. B. Yeats. It is for this reason that Sligo is so fondly known as Yeats' Country. Yeats' family spent their summer months at Rosses Point and thousands of folk come to Sligo each year to pay their respects to the great writer who is buried at Drumcliff churchyard.
